Identify the topic sentenceThe first sentence usually introduces the main idea and doesn’t refer back to anything. It typically doesn’t start with pronouns like he, she, this or linking words.
Look for logical connectionsCheck how ideas connect from one sentence to the next. Look for cause-effect, problem-solution, or general-to-specific patterns that can help you decide the order.
Pay attention to pronounsSentences with pronouns like he, she, it or words like these can’t come first, as they refer to earlier information. They should come after the topic sentence.
Match linking words to the flowLinking words like however, therefore, moreover, and later help you identify the sentence’s role in the flow of the paragraph.
Use key words for cluesLook for repeated words, related terms, or ideas that help connect sentences. These keywords can guide you to group sentences together correctly.
