In this task, you listen to a discussion between three people. After the audio ends, you get 10 seconds to prepare and then two minutes to give your summary. This question type assesses Listening and Speaking skills. The audio may be up to 3 minutes long, and this task carries 16 marks in PTE Academic. This question type appears only in PTE Academic, not in PTE Core.

You should identify the central idea of the discussion as soon as possible. When you understand the main topic clearly, it becomes easier to arrange the rest of your summary. It helps you maintain focus and skip over anything unnecessary.
Each speaker usually presents a different opinion or detail. You should organise your points on who says what so you can explain it correctly in your summary. Mentioning each speaker’s contribution improves accuracy and organisation.
The speakers often give reasons, examples, or explanations. You should write down only short keywords so you remember these details. These points help you present a complete and meaningful summary.
Once the audio ends, you get a moment to organise your ideas. Use this time to decide the order of your summary topic first, then the main points, and finally the conclusion. A clear structure improves your fluency.
Two minutes give you enough time to cover every important idea. If you finish too quickly, your summary may sound incomplete. Keep speaking steadily and confidently throughout the full time.
If you make a minor mistake, do not stop or correct yourself. Don’t take pause or hesitate as it breaks your fluency and wastes time. Keep speaking smoothly to maintain a natural flow.
